 Hirschau know-how in demand in China AKW Apparate + Verfahren GmbH (AKW A+V) has secured its second-largest individual order for a six-line used wire saw slurry processing plant in the field of wafer production in China. According to the company, the project will be headed by the Chinese operating company of SiC Processing AG, also based in Hirschau, which is part of the AKW A+V Holding business group. SiC specialises in the recovery of silicon carbide (SiC) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). The new SiC plant will be situated in the city of Zhenjiang near Shanghai. A similar facility is already in operation on another site in the vicinity. The new plant will boast six lines with each processing around 15,000 tonnes of used wire saw slurry per year. The company is currently forging ahead with planning in Hirschau so that the facilities can be brought on stream in phases from September 2011. The company expects to start delivering the last three lines to SiC in the third quarter of 2011, with the last being handed over in 2012.  AKW A+V’s largest project of this kind to date, two sites in Norway with a total of seven lines commissioned by SiC Processing, has been in operation since March 2010. As the know-how provider for SiC, AKW A+V currently has 65 permanent employees in Hirschau In addition, freelance staff are also employed in Hirschau and in other locations around the globe.
AKW A+V does business with its partners on a worldwide scale. According to the company, know-how and key components are delivered from Germany while smaller components such as constructional steelworks, pipes, tanks, etc. are acquired in the respective country. As well as providing leading-edge wire saw slurry recycling technology, AKW A+V continues to intensively serve the core markets where processing technology is required.
Naturally, plants from its core area – the processing of mineral raw materials (once developed for its own requirements) – continue to be developed and successfully sold worldwide. In recent years the company has delivered quartz sand processing plants to Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Algeria. AKW A+V is among the leading players in this field. AKW A+V also has orders for a large number of ore processing plants in Brazil, India, Kazakhstan, Mauritania and Egypt. The company is also a valued partner of the alumina industry in China, Australia, Venezuela and Brazil.
As a leading international specialist in wet-mechanical processing facilities the company collaborates with various institutions including Friedrich Alexander University Nuremberg-Erlangen, RWTH Aachen University (teaching and research field: mineral raw material processing) and Amberg- Weiden University of Applied Sciences.
