The leading glass sand manufacturer in India Hindusthan National Glass Industries Ltd. with the head office located in Kolkata signed a contract with AKW Apparate + Verfahren GmbH as general contractor for the erection of a silica sand plant for the production of container glass at Naidupeta.

The volume of the order includes the total engineering, process design and responsibility, delivery of key components for wet-mechanical preparation and refinement of silica sand. As well as the control equipment and commissioning of the plant.

The plant is fed with approx. 33t/h raw sand material and produces up to 25t/h highly purified silica sand. The start up is scheduled for spring 2012 together with a container glass work under construction at the same location.

To achieve the required product quality a sophisticated beneficiation process is necessary. The process includes aggregates for screening and washing, TAK hydrosizer, an impact mill for crushing the coarse fraction, AKA-TRIT attrition unit for cleaning the sand surface, AKA-SPIN spirals for heavy metal separation as well as a high wet intensity magnetic separator, conveyors and dewatering systems. Special attention was paid to the process water treatment using a AKA-SET high capacity thickener for closing the water circuit and conserve resources. Besides the infrastructure HNG supplies the building, tanks, conveyor belts, pumps, pipes and mounting with the help of local companies, according to the basic and detailed engineering by A+V.

This plant ranks as a startup project for further ambitious investment projects of HNG in India. The focus is to gain high quality raw materials for manufacturing of glass from own deposits with own beneficiation plants.
